Venezuelan Air Force Captain Arrested for Espionage

This Monday February 22, Venezuelan Minister for Defense General Vladimir Padrino López reported via Twitter that, following intelligence work, a captain in active reserve was arrested for attempting to obtain information from the strategic platform SUKHOI- 30MK2 of the Bolivarian Military Aviation (AMB), data that would have been provided to an official assigned to the National Intelligence Directorate of Colombia.

The captain in active reserve is Ronald Marrero Lozano, already being held and investigated by Venezuelan authorities.

General Padrino López asserted that Marrero had been bribed with a thousand dollars per week by a member of the Colombian National Intelligence Directorate using the alias “Andrés,” with whom Marrero “communicated through the subscriber +573219500962. Ronald Marrero is providing all the detailed information.”

The Defense Minister denounced this action by the Colombian government, directly “supported by the CIA,” which “persists in its hostile attitude against Venezuela, systematically attacking our sovereignty.”
